At the end of 1984, Syro Malabar Chaplains from Pune used to come and conduct Holy Mass at St. Patrick Church, Devlali. This was discontinued in a short period of time. After that Bishop Paul Chitilappally, came to Devlali during Dec., 1989 and gave confirmation to the children of our community at St. Patrick Church.
Fr. Peter Kavumpuram took charge as the Parish Priest in 1989 and Holy Qurbana was conducted at St. Patrick’s Church (Latin) hall with the kind permission of then Vicar. Thereafter, we got the permission to conduct Holy Qurbana in the St. Patrick Church.
Mrs Max D’silva, donated a few gundas of land which were having two cattle sheds near Barnes School. Initially we conducted the Holy Qurbana every Sunday inside one of the cattle sheds on temporary basis. There was near about 12 families at that point of time which included some temporary members of Armed Forces (Defence).
The construction of the Divine Mercy Church was completed and the blessing was conducted on 03.02.2002 by Bishop Thomas Elavanal. Fr. Shibu Pulickal was the Parish priest during that period. Now the total members of this church is 17 including Defence families. We are regularly celebrating Divine Mercy feast every year during first Sunday after the Holy Easter.
The Church has been managed by the priests from St. Mary’s Church, Nasik from the beginning. Rev. Fr. George Thattamparambil SAC was served in the parish as the parish priest. At present Fr. Davis Chalissery is the parish Priest and Fr. Franklin Cheruvathur took charge as the Pro-Parish priest from 09th February 2017.
