At early times of migration, Khopoli Christian Community gathered for prayer irrespective of their Church or rite. Fr. Ribbas from Koona Mission was the first to start Holy Qurbana and other sacraments here in the year 1969 August. Fathers from Pune Diocese used to come to celebrate Holy Qurbana and provide convenience to other sacraments. From 1981 onwards priests from Bombay Diocese began to administer sacrament to us.
In 1981, a plot for church was purchased in Khopoli raising funds jointly by the faithful and Bombay Arch Diocese. On 8th March 1985, Bishop Simon Pementa blessed Holy Redeemer’s Church and appointed a permanent priest.
Latin and Syrian communities joined for all the Church functions together up to October 1989. In 1988, Fr. Thomas Thalachira came to Khopoli and visited Syro Malabar Christians and made them aware of Kalyan Diocese. From the year 1989 onwards Fr. Thomas Thalachira and Fr. John Mudukkoli started celebrating Holy Qurbana once in a week.
Mar Paul Chittilapilly visited Khopoli on February 23rd 1989 and encouraged the faithful to purchase a land for the community hall for the Syro-Malabar faithful. The land was there purchased in 1990. In the year 1989, CMC Sisters from Thrissur Province started Carmel Convent and in 1990, Carmel Convent School.
In 7th September 1990, St. Antony’s Centre, Khopoli started for Syro Malabar Community under the guidance of Msgr. Thomas Thalachira. On December 7th 1990 Fr. Thomas Thalachira got transferred and Fr. Lonappan Arangassery was appointed as Parish Priest in 23rd December 1995, the new Church was consecrated during the tenure of Fr. Joseph Pothanparambil and later Rev. Fr. Robin Abraham CMF was the parish priest. Fr. Lijo (Sebastian) Irattakuzhackal took charge as the parish priest from 09th February 2017.
