Since 1980 onwards Syro Malabar Catholics presence were seen in Girgaon and Charni Road. Even though there were no families many nurses were there, mainly from H.N., Kothbari and Saifee hospitals and some bachelors also. Before the inauguration of the Diocese of Kalyan this community tried to conduct Holy Qurbana, Retreat and prayer services for their spiritual growth. After the inauguration of the Diocese of Kalyan, 1988-1993 the faithful of this community attended the Holy Qurbana in different Parishes- Mumbai central, Dhobithalao and Worli. In 1993 January 24th Bishop Paul Chitilappally, visited the Girgaon community and said Qurbana at St. Theresa’s Church. For this Fr. John Kizakkarakkattu has taken the initiative, (The first vicar).
In the early stages of this Centre every Sunday 3.30pm the Holy Qurbana was celebrated at St. Theresa’s Church and around 150 members were participated. In the time of main feasts like Christmas, Easter etc., Girgaon and Mumbai Central community celebrated it together. From 2006 to this Center co-operate mainly with JNF, and main feasts celebrated with Dhobithalao parish. Till that time fathers were coming from Kalina Church. Now 80 members are there. Every Sunday 6.30pm Novena to Mother Mary, 6.45pm Holy Mass. Every year in the month of January-February feasts of St. John & St. Sebastian are celebrated. The priests served us are Fr. John Kizhakarakattu, Fr. Jose Aloor, Fr. Joseph Thundathil CMF, Fr. John Francis Mundampallil, Fr. Shaji Parickappalil, Fr. Emmanuel Varickamackal, Fr. Biju Chittilappily, Fr. Baburaj Kakkassery, Fr. Boby Mulackampally (Asst-Vicar), Fr. Vincent Kanimangalthukaran, Fr. Zacharias Neelamkavil and Fr. Davis Chalissery. At present Fr Liju Keettikkal is the Parish Priest.
