The unit was established for 20 family members under St. Mary’s Unit, Nashik situated at Pavan Nagar. Weekdays Holy Qurbanna started for the Members of the family during March 1997. In July 2001, S.H. Convent started a small convent at Trimurti chowk area for Qurbana, Prayer meetings dedicated for this particular area, for which all Unit members were co-operated shifted their weekly Qurbana in the Convent. In June 2002, Mar Thomas Elavanal had a visit at St. Mary’s Church, Nashik and arranged a Unit Members meeting for the need of individual Prayer units for each location. Our unit demanded for a small Prayer Centre at Pavan Nagar area. The proposal has been approved and has completed the registration process by the end of Sept. 2002.
The prayer hall foundation stone was laid by our Parish Priest, Nashik. Accordingly, the work was awarded to M/s. Sonali Construction, Nashik. The construction work was completed within 100 days. All Parish members have collected and contributed the funds by putting their best efforts for the Prayer Hall construction. Finally our Bishop blessed the Prayer Hall by Aug 2003.
The total strength of the Unit members is 40 families. The necessary sanction from Bishop House was accorded and the construction work was awarded by M/s. Mali Construction, Nashik. The foundation stone was laid by our Parish Priest and the work was completed as per scheduled time and the Blessing of St. Joseph Church at Pavan Nagar was done by our Bishop Mar. Thomas Elavanal, on 23rd June 2007.
This Unit was under the pastoral care of St. Mary’s Parish priest, but by Feb. 2012 our beloved Bishop appointed Fr. Binoy Kannanayikkil as a Parish Priest for 3 units (Pavan Nagar, Mahatma Nagar & Satpur) and the unit is independently doing all day today activities. As per geographical division of centres during 2011, St. Martin Unit at Sahyadri Nagar was included in St. Joseph’s Church and total strength is 57 families. In March 2011 one of our Parish members offered Kurisadi & Kalkurish for our Parish, which was blessed by our Vicar General Fr. Jacob Porathur. After the period of Rev. Fr. Joseph Chalissery, Rev. Fr. Francis Komban took charge after which Rev. Fr. Jenson Porathur took the charge as the parish priest.
