St. Mary’s Church, CBD Belapur

On Sunday 22nd January 1987 fifteen families from CBD Belapur assembled in Mr Stanley Joseph Menachery’s House for a Holy Qurbana. This marked the birth of St Mary’s Centre, CBD Belapur. Initially the community used to assemble at Peoples Education Society’s School hall for Sunday Qurbana and other liturgical activities. Under the able leadership and guidance of Fr. Varghese Nadakal and support of the faithful, a chawl was purchased for the centre at sector 2 in 1992. The then bishop Mar. Paul Chittilappilly blessed it. Further two more adjacent chawls were purchased and expanded the structure to its present form by 2004.

In the beginning, priests from Nerul Church looked after the spiritual needs of St. Mary’s centre too. Due to the continuous request from the faithful of this centre, Rev. Fr. Anto Chiriyamkandathil was appointed as the first residential parish priest of the centre in January 2005. Mar Thomas Elavanal elevated the centre as an independent parish on 7th October 2006.The present church building was completed under the able leadership of Fr. Anto Chiriyankandathil, trustees Mr. C.J. George and Mr. Joy Antony and the whole-hearted support and prayer of the parish community. Rev. Fr. Jitto Thengumpally took over as the Parish Priest in 2008. He organized various fund raising programmes and cleared all financial liabilities of the parish. On 1st June 2012 Fr. Binoy Kannanaikal took over the charge of St Mary’s Parish. At present Rev. Fr. Shaibu Paul Malethadathil is our parish priest and under his leadership the parish is marching ahead with Christ.
