Before 1988 the Kerala Catholics migrated to Kurla participated actively in all the activities of the St. Joseph church (New Kurla), built by the Franciscan Missionaries of Christ the King.
When the Diocese of Kalyan came into existence in the year 1988 to meet the need of Syro-Malabar Catholics to have their own ecclesiastical rites of worship, a new Qurbana Centre for Syro-Malabar Catholics also began functioning at Kurla. The activities at that time were centered around St. Joseph’s Church, New Kurla. The need to have our own centre for worship was strong in our mind and with the grace of God and the efforts from Rev. Fr. Jose Chirayath who conducted the donation drive in Oct 1992, Rev. Fr. George Vadakethala, Rev. Fr. Anthony Kallanure, our beloved parish priest Rev. Fr. Augustine Puthiakulangara and the generous financial support of our diocese and parishioners, 2 flats (Flat No:983,984)were bought in New Kurla Bldg No.36.
In a parish council meeting held on Nov 15, 1992 it was decided to name the welfare center as St. Paul’s Welfare Centre and for this permission from the dioceses was taken. Three committees were formed to bring all the in- house material required for the flat and on March 20, 1996 Mar Paul Chittilapilly consecrated, blessed and inaugurated the St. Paul’s Welfare Centre. Since then all our liturgical, sacramental and other charitable activities gradually shifted to this centre.
The first parish day celebration was held on June 25, 1995 in St Joseph’s church New Kurla wherein the chief guest was Mar Paul Chittilapilly. Mathrusangam was started on Feb 20, 1995. Youth group was started in 1989. Babysitting was stared on April 22, 1996. Catechism was started on June 28, 1998 and Sr. Rose SABS from Kalina came to teach the students.
At present as our St. Paul’s Welfare Centre is under demolition we are having Qurbana on every second Sunday of the month at 5:00 pm in Shell Colony church. The following Priests guided this parish since its inception: Rev. Fr. Anthony Kallanur, Rev. Fr. K T James, OFM, Cap., Rev. Fr. Jose Chirayath, Rev. Fr. George Vadakethala, Rev. Fr. Immanual Kaddankavil, Rev. Fr. Paul Kalarikal, Rev. Fr. Augustine Puthiakulangara , Rev. Fr. Tomy Plathottam, Rev. Fr. Mathew Kollamparambil, Rev. Fr. Benny Ezhorumattam, Rev. Fr. Sheen Chittatukara, Rev. Fr. Mathew Maniamkerry, Rev. Fr. Poulose, Rev. Fr. Jijo Kallely, OFM, Cap, Rev. Fr. Jinto Edattukunnel and Rev. Fr. Antony Karikilamattathil. At present Rev. Fr. Thomas Thoyalil is Parish Priest.
