04 May 1988 The Apostolic Pro-Nuncio served the letter of the erection of the New Eparchy of Kalyan and the appointment of its first bishop to Mgr. Paul Chittilapilly.
09 May 1988 A letter was sent to His Holiness Pope John Paul II and to His Grace Agostino Cacciavillan by the Bishop-elected Mar Paul Chittilapilly, thanking both of them for erecting the Eparchy of Kalyan for the Syro-Malabar faithful.
19 May 1988 The announcement was done by His Eminence Simon Cardinal Pimenta at Santhome Centre, Kalina.
25 May 1988 The Bishop-elect Mgr. Paul Chittilapilly requested the Holy See to be ordained on 24th August, dispensing him from the obligation taking the possession of the Eparchy within 3 months.
21 June 1988 Dispensation letter by the Cardinal Simon Lourduswami was given to Mgr. Paul Chittilapilly permitting him to be ordained on 24th August 1988.
24 Aug 1988 The inauguration of the Eparchy of Kalyan and the consecration of Mar Paul Chittilapilly as its first bishop. The main consecrator was His Eminence Antony Cardinal Padiyara, Archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly and the co-consecrators were Mar Joseph Kundukulam, Bishop of Trichur and Mar Gregarious of Syro Malankara Church. Cardinal Simon Pementa preached the Sermon of the Consecration Ceremony.
