On the development of the Kharghar node by CIDCO in the year 2000, about 4 families came to Kharghar from different parts of Mumbai. For their spiritual and religious needs they were attending St. Mary’s Church, CBD Belapur and formed a family unit St. Antony’s Unit under CBD Church. In the year 2005, when the development of Kharghar node took place in quick pace and more families started to reside in Kharghar, Diocese of Kalyan took note of the same and permitted to start a new centre. – Infant Jesus Church, Kharghar on 3rd April, 2005.
Rev. Fr. Anto Chiriankandath was the first Parish Priest of Kharghar and parish committee and trustees were duly elected to assist. From 48 families (approximately) at the time Kharghar centre was developed it is 110 families now. To help the various social and religious activities, a trust started in the name of Infant Jesus Trust on 16-01-2008. When Rev. Fr. Anto Chirankandath was transferred Fr. Jitto Thengumpallil took charge and continued the efforts to get a land for the Church and other religious and social activities. After the term of Rev. Fr. Jitto, Rev. Fr. Binoy Kannanaickal took the charge.
Now Fr. Shaibu Paul Malethadathil serves as the parish priest of Kharghar Centre and leads all religious social and other activities. Units of Mathursangam, Youth, Catechism, are actively functioning. The feast of Infant Jesus and St Sebastian are celebrated every year. With the active help of all the parishioners and support from the Diocese of Kalyan, Kharghar Centre purchased a Row House plot in 2010 and it is continuing the efforts to get a land for Church from CIDCO.
