Little Flower Church, Dahisar

In the year 1985 a few Catholic families residing at Dahisar met under the banner of Kerala Catholic Association (KCA) and discussed about the spiritual needs of migrant Catholics from Kerala. With the help of CMI fathers, they succeeded to start Sunday Mass in Syro-Malabar Qurbana at St. Louis Church, Dahisar (West). This arrangement continued till the establishment of the Kalyan Diocese in the year 1988 for the spiritual needs of Syro-Malabar Catholics. This Qurbana Centre continued to function under the Borivli sub-zone of the Diocese. During the initial period till the year 2004 Little Flower Church consisted of above 100 families. During the early Nineties earnest efforts were made by the faithful to locate a place to conduct the Holy Qurbana and other church activities. The families purchased a flat in a building and started conducting Holy Qurbana.

After sustained efforts we were successful in buying a plot to build a church in the year 2005. After getting the required permission from the Bishop’s House, the construction of the structure for the church was started and within a record time of 45 days the same was completed and inaugurated as Mass Centre on the 13th day of December 2005 by Mar Thomas Elavanal. After renovations and establishing of the Tabernacle, the Church was blessed and consecrated on 21st July 2007 by Mar Thomas Elavanal, Bishop of Kalyan Diocese. In the year 1992 we were able to register a Trust and it is functioning in the name and style of “LITTLE FLOWER WELFARE TRUST”.

Today, though our church consists of only 44 families, there is active participation in spiritual and social matters relating to the church. There are 7 family units and regular family meetings are conducted in each unit. The Patron saint’s feast is celebrated with great enthusiasm.

Our church also runs a Play group and Nursery which cater to the middle class and poor families of the locality. We are conducting free tuition classes for the slum children of our neighborhood with active participation from social wing of TCS. We are involved in many charitable activities and also have a unit of Karunya Trust. The catechism faculty renders selfless service by giving spiritual guidance to children and helping them in faith formation.
