The catholics in Sion, Mumbai under the banner of KCA (Kerala Catholic Association) has taken the initiative to conduct Malayalam Mass once in a month in the Latin (OLGC) church in Sion to fulfill the spiritual needs of the Malayalees staying in the Sion-Dharavi area. Gradually, regular Masses were held on Sundays in the name of ‘Sion Qurbana Centre’ and with the erection of the Kalyan Diocese, the Qurbana Centre also started actively functioning and celebrated Masses in the Latin church on every Sundays. The Patron Saint of the Centre is Holy Mary, Mother of Jesus. Keeping this in mind, it was decided to name the Centre ‘Nirmala Matha Qurbana Centre, Sion’.
When the Kalyan Diocese was erected and inaugurated, Rev. Fr. Jacob Porathur was the priest-incharge in the Sion Qurbana Centre. With the combined efforts of Kalyan Diocese and Rev. Fr. Jacob Porathur, the then parish priest of the Centre, on 25th April, 1989, four Sisters of the Nirmala Dasikal Society under the leadership of Mother Superior Rev. Sr. Rosily Pidiyath, commenced their work in the Parish. Their Nirmal Bhavan Convent in Dharavi was blessed and inaugurated on 15.06.1989 by Mar Paul Chittilapilly. After Rev. Mother, Sr. Rosily, Rev. Sr. Kochuthresia took over as the Superior and now Rev. Mother Superior Sr. Ruby Thanickal is the in-charge of the Convent.
The names of the priests-in-charges worked in the Sion Parish are H.E. Mar Paul Chittilapilly was the Priest-in-charge of the Sion Qurbana Centre for a short period before he became the Bishop of Kalyan, Rev. Fr. Antony Kollannur, Rev. Fr. Jacob Porathur, Rev. Fr. Thomas Thaikoottathil, Rev. Fr. Thomas Choondal, Rev. Fr. Jacob Edakulathur , Rev. Fr. Sunny Perumpuzha, Rev. Fr. Justin Kallely, Rev. Fr. Vincent Kanimangalathukaran, Rev. Fr. Jojo, Rev. Fr. Abraham Kollithadam, Rev. Fr. Jaison Karakunnel and Rev. Fr. Bipin Chovattukunnel. Under their guidance, all the parish members are actively taking part in the spiritual as well as cultural activities of the church.
At present Fr. Joby Ayithamattathil is the parish priest.
