Few Malayalee catholics residing at Mumbra in earlier times were depending on St. John the Baptist Church, Thane for their spiritual needs. Later in 1981, catholics From Kerala and Goa got an opportunity to attend Sunday Mass in a Marathi /school at Mumbra. A place of worship of its own was purchased in Heera-Panna building and regular English Mass in Latin rite started in 1983 under the initiative of St. John the Baptist Church, Thane.
After the establishment of Kalyan Diocese in 1988, Rev. Fr. George Edakulathur was appointed as the Parish Priest of Mumbra centre on 7th March 1989 and Malayalam service in Syro-Malabar rite started in the Latin Church on Saturdays. The centre started all activities with the assistance and co-operation of all 8 families. On 8th March 1991 Fr. Vincent Parayil was appointed as the Parish Priest and he started regular Mass on Sundays.
Rev. Fr. Kurian Kunnumpuram took over the charge in 1993 and the idea of purchasing a land to build a church was initiated with his leadership. After continuous search, finally two flats admeasuring 1310 sq. ft. in the ground floor of a building in Shantinagar were purchased and the deal was registered on 17-11-1994.
Overcoming all obstacles, with the support from the Diocese a church in the name of Blessed Alphonsa was built and it was consecrated by Mar Paul Chittilapilly on 5th Feb., 1995.
Former parish priest are Fr. George Edakkkalathur, Fr. Vincent Parayil, Fr. Kurian Kunnumpuram, Fr. Paul Arackal, Fr. Joju Arackal, Fr. George Porathur, Fr. George Thuppalanjiyil, Fr. Paul Olickal, Fr. Jose Kokkopuzha and Fr. Biju Mannamcheril. Former assistant parish priests are Fr. Justin Kallely, Fr. Rajesh Mathew, Fr. Shiju Avanoor, Fr. Tom Vadakkekara, Fr. Joji Ampattu, Fr. Lijo Mullonkal, Fr. Joseph challissery, Fr. Siby Kulangara, Fr. Augustine Kattayath, Fr. Thomas Vazhayil, Fr. Liju Irattakuzha, Fr. Thomas Kunnathettu and Fr. John Koovakunnel.
At present Fr. Sheen Chittatukara is the parish priest.
