A Syro-Malabar catholic Community with 18 families already existed in Nallasopara well before the establishment of Kalyan Diocese in 30-04-1988. It was after that the Vasai Region was recognized by the appointment of Rev. Fr. Varghese Nadakkal for the pastoral care on 17-03-1989 and on 19-01-1992 the first Holy Qurbana in Syro Malabar rite was celebrated at Nallasopara by Rev. Fr. Sebastian Vazhappilly. On the request of the Community, a public meeting with 18 families was held on 05-04-1992, presided over by Rev. Fr. Sebastian Vazhapplilly along with Rev. Fr. Paul Theruvanmoola and decided to name the community as “St. George Center” having elected Mr. K.J. George and Mr. V.R Varunny as trustees.
The community who had either depended on the shops, residence or knocked at the door of St. Francis De Sales primary school as they had no permanent place for the liturgical celebration, expressed their desire to have permanent facility to Mar. Paul Chittalappilly during his first visit on 20-06-1993. It was on 26-08-1993, the community succeeded in purchasing and registering the land at Chakradhar Nagar, Nallasopara (W) in the name of Santhome Trust of Kalyan, under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Davis Thattil and Rev. Fr. Abraham Kollithadam.
For the Construction of St. George Centre Building, a Construction Committee was formed in the meeting held on 19-03-1997. Foundation stone was laid by Rev. Fr. Davis Thattil on 18-05-1997 and it was decided to carry out the construction in different phases due to shortage of funds. The Stilt of the first Phase and first floor (Church) of the Second phase were completed under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Davis Thattil and were blessed respectively on 25-11-98 and 03-07-1999 by Mar. Thomas Elavanal, Bishop of Kalyan Diocese. Third and final phase of construction (Hall & Priest Residence) was completed on 29-01- 2006 under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Davis Chalissery and was blessed by Mar Thomas Elavanal on the same day.
Two milestones have been set in the history of St. George Catholic church with the inauguration of St. George Nursery School by Rev. Fr. Francis Eluvathingal, on 12-01 2008 and elevation of St. George Catholic Center canonically to St. George’s Parish under the Diocese of Kalyan along with naming the Main Hall on the second floor after Rev. Fr. Paul Theruvanmoola Memorial hall by Mar Thomas Elavanal on 13-01-2008, in the presence of Vicar Rev. Fr. Paul Kunduparambil.
At a glance if we look back, what we can be proud of this community is nothing but the Community with 18 families in the year 1988 has grown tremendously to 155 families with 9 family units.
We express our sincere thanks to Sisters of Holy Family Convent Vasai for their help in the spiritual growth of the parishioners. Our sincere thanks to Sisters of M.S.M.I convent too, who started their convent at Nallasopara on 14-06- 2008. Our long standing dream to have a grotto was realised under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Jaison Kollannur and was blessed by Mar. Thomas Elavanal on 16-10-2010. Fr. Liju Keettickal was replaced with Fr. Thomas Kunnathettu in 2013. Fr. Nixon (Mathew) Pallan took charge as the parish priest from 09th February 2017.
