The Syro-Malabar community initially went to Pali church to fulfil their spiritual needs. The then Asst. Parish Priest of Bl. Alphonsa Church, Vasai, Rev. Fr. Francis Eluvathingal was the first to visit the area to start a new Unit under Vasai Parish. Accompanied by Mr. K.J. Sebastian, he visited the houses of thinly populated Syro-Malabar community. Later on Vasai Parish priest, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Pothenparambil (MST) and Asst. Priest Rev. Fr. Sebastian Mudakkalil visited Naigaon again to start a unit in 2004. Encouraged by the response from the community here, the St. Joseph’s Centre was established under Vasai West Parish. Principal of St. Francis High School, was kind and gracious enough to allow us to use one of his school classroom on rent for Sunday Mass. Rev. Fr. Sebastian Pothenparambil and Rev. Fr. Sebastian Mudakkali together offered the first Qurbana in Naigaon on 28th March, 2004.
In later part of 2005, St.Joseph’s Centre was brought under Bhayandar Church. Fr. Jose Kokkapuzha was the then Parish Priest. In August 2006, again Naigaon was brought under Vasai East Parish. Rev. Fr. Tomy Nelliani took charge of St. Joseph Centre on 28th June 2006. He was instrumental in organizing the church activities and formed various councils like Parish Council, Zonal Council, Youth, Mathrusangham and two prayer meeting Units – St. Thomas (Naigaon East) and St. Mary (Naigaon West). Inspired by vision, leadership and constant perseverance of Rev. Fr. Tomy Nelliyani the parishioners started a search to identify a location and finally found the location with a semi built structure where St. Joseph’s Church now stands. Our Bishop, Mar Thomas Elavanal, visited the site on 6th Oct 2008 and gave the token money, to Mr. Rocky and Mrs. Sarita Rocky, the owners of the site. The property was bought and registered by Bishop’s House on 13th Jan. 2009.
Rev. Fr. Shijo Parayil took charge as Parish Priest of St.Thomas Church, Vasai (E) and in-charge of St. Joseph’s Centre, Naigaon on 1st Feb 2010. The foundation stone was laid on 11th July, 2010, together by our Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Shijo and Rev. Fr. Tomy Nelliyani.
Under Rev. Fr. Shijo’s leadership and direction, various fund -raising activities were undertaken to complete the construction work. All the members, especially the trustees – Mr. George Joseph and Mr. K.J. Sebastian along-with Mr. Rainold Alexander and Mr. C.D. Francis put in tremendous efforts and worked together as a closely knit family to complete the work within a short period of 11 months. The work was completed and the consecration of St. Joseph’s Church was held on 19th June 2011 by Mar Thomas Elavanal. :Later Fr. Mathew Mechira CMF served as the Parish Priest in Naigaon.
At present Fr. Jesto Menacherry is the Parish Priest.
