The parish was started in 1995 at Gloria church by Fr. Joy Punnakuzhy as Parish Priest. When he left India for higher studies, Fr. Joy Paliakara was appointed as our Parish priest. Fr. Thomas Kumbalathanam took charge as the Parish Priest after Fr. Paliakara. Later Fr. Shaji Parickappiilly replaced him.
Fr. Benny Ezhormattam. Fr. Paul Kunduparambil, Fr. Cyriac Kumbattu, Fr. Ashok Kollamkudy and Fr. Joseph Kusumalayam have also served Byculla parish as our short- term Parish priests. During the period of Fr. Zacharias Neelankavil, the parishioners of Byculla were spiritually awakened.
Byculla parish is one of the small parishes in the Diocese of Kalyan, having less than twenty families consisting around one hundred people. Because of the ideal location of Gloria Church the floating members are many in number for the regular Sunday services. Even though the Syro-Malabar Community’s strength is small in number the spiritual activities are not less. We follow all the Church activities in its full spirit without fail. Mathrusangam, Youth, Pithruvedi, Catechism, Choir, Altar Angels etc are all functioning well. It is also to be noted that the reports of the Kerala Catholic Association reveals all the spiritual activities were conducted at St. Anne’s Church, Mazgoan from 1981 onwards.
We remember the name of Congregation Chaplains like Fr. George Pulikottil, Fr. L.F. Joseph, Fr. Manikuzhikandam and Fr. Philip Louis with sincere thanks and gratitude. In the year 1990 April 13th, Mar Paul Chittilapally visited the Byculla parishioners at Gloria Church.
In 2007, Sep 16th, and 2012, Aug 19th, Mar Thomas Elavanal made pastoral visit to the Byculla parish at Gloria Church and also conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation for the parish children.
We gratefully remember the priests who served us. Later Rev. Fr. Joby Aythamattathil was our parish priest.
At present Fr. Antony Thekkiniyath OFM Cap. is the parish priest.
