St. Thomas Catholic Church Borivli situated on a serene and beautiful hillock in the heart of I.C. Colony is a house of prayer and a spiritual refuge for more than 1200 Syro Malabar Catholics. This parish was born in Dec 1988 soon after the inception of the diocese of Kalyan in August the same year. This new born parish was handed over to its first Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. George Vadakkethala who was already serving as the Chaplain of this area. In the same year later Rev. Fr. Varghese Nadakkal MST took charge as the Parish Priest and a year later in 1989-90, Rev. Fr. Varghese Thadathil was appointed as its 3rd Parish Priest. The Franciscan brothers in all their generosity threw open the gates of their institution for our spiritual use!
It was in 1990 that Borivli, Gorai and Dahisar parishes together formed into a subzone. Rev. Fr. Paul Thiruvanmoola MST became the next Parish Priest of the parish in 1990 and a year later, Rev. Fr. Franco Kavalakkat was appointed as the parish priest for a term of three years from 1992-1995. In 1996 Rev. Fr. Joy Chitteth MST took over as the parish priest. The search for a suitable plot began during the tenure of Rev. Fr. Joy. Rev. Fr. George Cheerankuzhy the next Parish Priest who came in 1998 also worked very hard for the development of the parish . Then Rev. Fr. Sunny Perumpuzha MST assumed office as the parish priest in 2002. God in his infinite plan had kept a beautiful plot for Borivli parish in Holy Cross Road, I.C. Colony at an accessible and secluded location to build a church.
With the blessings from above and the support of all the benefactors and well-wishers the long-cherished dream of having a splendid church has been fulfilled and it was consecrated on 16th October 2009.
Besides building a magnificent church, a great community was also built – a community that lives in unity, a community that is similar to that of early Christians, a community that shares love and joy.
In 2009, Rev. Fr. Shaibu Paul Malethadathil became the parish priest. He made the family units more organized and strong. He also completed the work of presbytery.
Rev. Fr. George Vattamattam who assumed office in 2012 May is the current Parish Priest. There are about 395 families in this parish and 23 family units. There is Holy Qurbana in Malayalam every day and the Church is packed on Sundays. Associations such as Pithruvedi, Mathrusangam, Youth Wing, Catechism Department, Prayer group, Christeen, Choir, Altar Boys Team are all very dynamic and dedicated Parish council meetings, charitable activities, feast celebrations are all regular features. At present Rev. Fr. Davis Tharakan is our parish priest and he is looking after the flock entrusted to him.
