Sometime during the early 1970s, due to increasing influx of migrants of our Community, a need was felt by them to have Holy Qurbana & Sacraments in our rite and language. This made them approach the Syro-Malabar priests at Carmel Vidya Bhavan and Papal Seminary to say a weekly Qurbana at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. We are grateful to the Rectors and other priests of the Carmel Vidya Bhavan (CMI), particularly Fr. Gibinos CMI, Fr. Andrew Athapilly CMI for their kind cooperation to have regular weekly Qurbana.
Fr. George Kavukatt, Fr. Lonappan, Fr. Peter Kavumpuram, Fr. Emmanuel, and Fr. Mathew Moothassery were the priests appointed for the pastoral care of the migrants in Pune. About 27 families were the original members.
During the reconstruction of Our Lady of Perpectual Help Church from January 1988 to July 1990, the Qurbana was offered at various places like Maria Assunta, Mother Theresa home and the residence of Dr. Durairaj, and the Qurbana was shifted from Thursdays to Saturdays. During this period, in January 1989, the Parish had the honour of hosting the first Pastoral visit by Bishop Paul Chittilappilly.
After the reconstruction of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, our Parish Qurbana re-started at the Church on Sundays at 10.30 am which continues till today. Currently we have 10 families and more than 500 youth attending Qurbana at our parish. Fr. Binoy Kannanaickal is the current Parish Priest of our Parish. Thariyan Mundadan, Fr. Jeeson Kanjirathingal, Fr. Joy Chitteth, Fr. Shiju Vattampurath, Fr. Jitto Thengumpallil and Fr. Martin Velliyamkandathil.
